You’re probably one of the many who struggle with blowing a bubble with gum. You’ve never been able to relate to how kids and friends blow bubblegum as a pastime. Let’s change that.
Blowing a bubble with gum isn’t as hard as you might think it is. It’s not going to be incredibly easy either. The good thing is, everyone and anyone can do it. All you need to do is practice. After all, practice makes perfect.
How You Can Blow a Bubble with Gum
The art of blowing a bubble with gum takes a little bit of technique and some practice. With this guide, we’re sure you’ll be successful in your endeavor. Here are the steps you need to take to blow a bubble with bubblegum.
1. Chew the gum.
The first thing you’ll have to do is to obviously buy some bubblegum. If you’re having trouble choosing gum, some good choices would be Dubble Bubble, Big League Chew, and Bazooka. You’ll want to choose gum that is not very sticky and that has less sugar for a stronger base for making bubbles. Don’t chew stale gum.
If you already have bubblegum, chew it. You’ll want to chew one piece first before trying to chew two. Chew the bubblegum until it is soft and smooth. Another indicator is when your gum has lost most of its flavor and it can be easily bent. This will take a few times. Don’t over chew it though.
2. Roll the gum using your tongue.
It’s finally time to make the bubble! Roll the gum into a ball using your tongue. Use the roof of your mouth to shape the gum into a flat shape. To do this, press the gum against the roof of your mouth, very close to your front teeth, using your tongue.
3. Push your tongue through the flattened gum.
Position the gum so that when you push your tongue out, it’ll be covered with a thin layer of bubblegum. You want to position the flat gum to be at the center of the tip of your tongue.
Once it’s positioned, open your teeth a little and slowly extend your tongue. You have to do this gently because you do not want to poke a hole or push your tongue right through. If this does happen, don’t worry. You can start over again and roll the gum into a ball.
4. Blow air into the gum around your tongue.
With your tongue out a bit wrapped in a thin layer of gum, slowly blow air into the gum until the gum starts to inflate.
Try breathing from your diaphragm instead of blowing air out of your lips because it won’t be strong enough to form a bubble. If you don’t get it right the first time, don’t give up. As Dory would say, just keep swimming.
5. Pull your tongue out of the layer of gum and keep blowing air.
Once you’ve blown air into the gum and it’s formed a bubble, gently pull your tongue out. Keep blowing air into the bubble until it either bursts or until you want to stop.
6. Seal off the bubble.
This is it! You’ve reached the last few steps. Now, you can seal off the bubble. Press your lips together to close and seal the bubble.
You can make the bubble as big as you want. If you’re finished, draw the bubble back into your mouth and pop it using your tongue to avoid a mess.
The Takeaway
Begin your bubble-blowing journey! Don’t give up. Soon enough, you’ll be the best in the business. But most importantly, have fun with it. Blowing bubbles is supposed to be fun. Don’t beat yourself up if you can’t get it and don’t make it into a competition.
